See Lee, James .44 r.f. cartridge caliber, Lee Single-Shot Carbine, breech-loader, hammer is mounted in the center of the frame, 21 1/2" round barrel with no forearm. Marked LEE's FIREARMS CO. MILWAUKEE, WISC. Production was between 1863 and 1865 and estimed at 450 carbines. Very few have survived. .44 r.f. cartridge caliber, Lee Sporting Rifle. Same as above but with octagonal and longer barrel in various length. The production of this model must have been exeeded those of the carbine model and it seems that more of them have survived.
